Why Mailgent Pay

The payment rail card networks never let you build.

Two-second settlement.

USDC on Base mainnet. Funds land in the merchant wallet before the customer leaves the page. No three-day clearing, no hold periods.

Signed, on-chain receipts.

Every order returns an Ed25519 signed receipt and a Base transaction hash. Refund flow is a single signed reversal — there are no chargebacks to fight.

Customer wallets, no MetaMask.

Mailgent provisions a non-custodial smart wallet behind the scenes. Customers see an email + password sign-in. They never know they hold a wallet.

How it works

From customer click to funds in your wallet — in seconds.

The whole flow is HTTP and a single on-chain transaction. Your customer signs, Mailgent settles, your webhook fires. No clearing window, no payout cycle, no PCI compliance.

01

Customer signs up; wallet auto-provisions

Email + password (or OAuth). A smart contract wallet on Base is provisioned in the background. The customer never sees a seed phrase, a chain RPC, or a browser extension.

02

Customer hits a Mailgent-enabled checkout

Shopify, WooCommerce, or any site with the Mailgent Checkout snippet. The payment sheet looks familiar — a single tap to confirm the exact amount and merchant.

03

Mailgent settles on chain

Mailgent submits the signed transaction to Base, waits for confirmation (about two seconds), routes the USDC to the merchant's project wallet. Merchant gas is sponsored.

04

Webhook fires; merchant fulfills

HMAC-signed webhook with idempotency keys and exponential retries hits the merchant fulfillment endpoint. Signed receipt + Base transaction hash in every payload.

Frequently asked

Things merchants ask about Mailgent Pay.

Is this a replacement for Stripe?
Mailgent Pay sits alongside Stripe, not on top of it. Most merchants offer Mailgent as a second payment method — cards for customers who prefer them, USDC for customers who prefer that. Some merchants drop Stripe over time as Mailgent volume grows; many keep both forever.
Do my customers need to know what a wallet is?
No. A wallet is auto-provisioned when they sign in with email + password. They can top up with a card, ACH, SEPA, or another wallet's USDC transfer. The wallet just looks like a balance to them.
What chains and tokens do you support?
USDC on Base mainnet only in v1. Base was chosen for low fees, fast settlement, and broad wallet support. Multi-chain is on the roadmap; the limiting factor is operational complexity, not technical capability.
Are chargebacks possible?
No. USDC settlement on Base is final by definition. The 120-day chargeback window that card networks impose does not apply. Disputes are handled out-of-band through the merchant's support flow with the on-chain activity log as evidence.
How do refunds work?
Through the merchant's existing admin (Shopify, WooCommerce) or through the Mailgent API directly. The merchant signs the reversal; Mailgent sends USDC from the merchant wallet back to the buyer wallet; the order updates and the refund webhook fires.
What does Mailgent Pay cost?
5% on settled mainnet payments — waived for now. No card, no monthly fee, no per-seat. Refunds cost only gas (about $0.001 per transaction on Base).
How do I get the USDC out?
Withdraw to any wallet address you control through the API or console. No payout cycles, no minimums, no holds. Most merchants schedule a daily sweep to a treasury address; conversion to fiat happens separately at your preferred off-ramp.
What about taxes?
Mailgent Pay does not calculate tax in v1. Pass a pre-calculated tax amount in your checkout call or use your existing tax engine (TaxJar, Avalara, Stripe Tax). The receipt itemizes whatever you provided. The shopify and woocommerce plugins respect the store's tax configuration automatically.
